DETAILS OF THE MATERIAL
Kootenay Covers are made of a special polyester fibre which is manufactured only for Kootenay Covers. It is highly resistant to UV light and will last for many seasons if stored properly after use each year.
I won’t know exactly how long they will last for a while yet. Mine is often used on an apple tree after it comes off the cherry tree so it’s had extra use, and after 16 years the netting is still very strong and stretchy. It’s a good way to keep turkeys, birds, wasps and people away from the apples in the fall after the cherries are harvested.
I now have five sizes made to fit 8’, 10’, 12', 14' and 16' diameter trees with spherical foliage shape. The netting is stretchy and so will conform to taller and narrower or shorter and wider trees. We have covered trees over 20’ with nets designed for a 16' tree and they worked but were difficult to put on. They also bent some of the branches a bit but didn't do any damage to the tree or fruit.
Canadian prices, before tax and shipping are:
16 Foot - $299
14 Foot - $269
12 Foot - $239
10 Foot - $209
8 Foot - $189
12' x 100' netting bale - $299
The bales are good for people who want to make their own cover or use it on row crops. Bulk netting in smaller pieces is $4 per running foot.
I now make strips of netting with larger holes designed to just keep out wasps and birds. They are made of the same durable fiber and can be used on grapes or other row crops that aren’t damaged by the tiny cherry fly. I have this in two sizes, 12’ x 244’ and 16’ x 244’. This netting can also be purchased by the foot in both the 12’ width and 16’ width.
12' x 100' Grape Net - $259
16' x 100' Grape Net - $299
For very small trees or to cover individual branches, I recently added what I call branch bag netting, a tube about 19” in diameter (5’ when cut up the side) which can be purchased by the foot or by a whole spool. It can be put around a branch, then cut to size and either tied or stapled to keep pests from the fruit.
Since I just turned 76 and want more time for other interests, I now have two people who will take over the sales for me. However, I will continue to sell directly from my home in Kaslo.
In Canada, my nets are now available from Kirk Hughes at kootenaycoversokanagan@gmail.com for that area.
For US sales of Kootenay Covers, please contact James Wilson in Utah. His website is https://fruittreecovers.com. Since postage from Canada to the US can be very expensive, this will be much easier and cheaper.
